LARRY LAUGIER
Class of 2015
VOLUNTEER / DRIVER
Cadet Years: Volunteer/Bus & Truck Driver (1986-2017)
HIS CADET STORY:
Larry was born in Albany, NY which is where he still lives. He graduated from Colonie Central High School in 1966 and then received an Associate In Applied Science - Accounting degree from Hudson Valley Community College in 1968. He worked for the New York Telephone Company in the computer room for 6 months before enlisting in the Air Force for 4 years (Dec 1968 - Dec 1972) being discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. He returned to the telephone company (NYNEX) computer room after being discharged from the service and retired in 1994. He is currently a charter bus driver for Wade Tours.
His drum corps career started in 1982 when he marched in the Interstatesmen Sr. Drum & Bugle Corps from Troy, NY for 2 years, playing soprano bugle. When that corps folded, he was invited by 2 members of the horn line to help instruct beginner horn players in a small corps called the Volunteers Drum & Bugle Corps, also from Troy, NY. Over the 8 years that he was with the corps, he got more involved and received his CDL bus license so that he could drive their school buses for weekend trips. When the corps started bingo to raise money, he ran the concession. During the last year of the corps, he served as assistant director. In 1985 he was a volunteer for Avant Garde from Saratoga Springs, NY where he helped with their bingo and drove a bus for them for practices and tour. That corps folded after his first year with them so that is when he made the big move to The Garfield Cadets (1986 - 2017). He was a volunteer bus driver (color guard bus for the entire time) for practice weekends, spring training and tour plus he helped out on the food truck. He drove the whole tour for many years after retiring from the phone company.
