HIS CADET STORY:

Jon Bilby was a member of the Cadets in the late 1990’s.  He then later became a member of the Visual Staff in the 2000’s.  As a teacher of Design Technology at a secondary school in East Ham, London, Jon understands visual design to an extremely high level.  The sophistication of his visual designs makes him in demand internationally as he has written for many ensembles in the United States, England, Ireland and Italy.

However, what makes Jon special in the minds of his students is not the information he puts forth but the passion and dedication he shows while he is instructing you.  Almost every year, he says goodbye to his wife and children in England to come to the United States to teach the Cadets.  From the moment he steps onto the field he brings such fervor to the Corps that it’s hard not to give him your best effort every time he speaks to you.  Jon is a master teacher that knows how to push you to your limits and make you understand how important work ethic is at the Cadets.  On days when you can go no further Jon is the best kind of motivator, one that will empathize with you but will manage to speak the exact words that you need to hear to keep you going.  He makes you feel like you are the most important part of the Cadets and is committed to helping you get it right while never once being demeaning or negative.  On those long summer days Jon’s inspiration is unmatched and welcomed by the corps members.

Jon embodies the spirit of the Cadets, provided a boost in morale and excellence during the season when needed, and led by example to show members what it meant to work hard and be successful.
