GREG FAYDOCK
Class of 2022
FOOD TRUCK MANAGER / VOLUNTEER
Cadet Years: Food Truck Manager (1996-2003)
HIS CADET STORY:
Greg came to The Cadets from the Blue Devils organization. He managed the food truck for the Cadets from 1996 through 2003. Greg changed the face of food service for the Cadets, making it an art form rather than just calorie intake. Greg expanded the menu and offered a selection that many of the members didn’t even eat in the off-season. He would poll the members and staff to see what types of food they would like to see served and he did what he could to introduce some new offerings. For a time, there was an amazing salad bar in addition to the main meal served, bringing a restaurant feel to the plastic serving tables.
Greg had a sense of humor AND the attitude to back it up. He was quick to come up with great nicknames for people that were fun and meaningful. He made the hard chores in the food truck seem like a fun time, a “whistle while you work” kind of atmosphere.
Greg’s personality made the food truck a great place to work and an even better place to eat! Greg brought fun to food times. He started by having “Christmas in July” where he decorated for and celebrated the holiday at the evening meal. He followed that with a Thanksgiving celebration and a Halloween party where the members and staff dressed in costume. These special meals were bright spots that broke up the monotony for the servers, members and staff.
One of Greg’s key attributes was that he had a great connection with the volunteers and parents. It did not matter if you were willing to take on an entire meal or just stir the cool aid jugs, Greg made sure you were recognized, celebrated and felt valued. It was clear Greg was the reason for the large group of continually returning volunteers year after year.
Greg had a sound system installed on the food truck so that each meal was like a dance party! Unfortunately, Greg left this world on April 5, 2007, but he left an imprint on many of us who had the pleasure of knowing him. Greg was an inspiration to work alongside, he brought joy and laughter to those around him, and he left the world a brighter and better fed place. Thank you for all you did for the Cadets, Greg. You are missed!
