HIS CADET STORY:
Don’s drum corps activities began with the Holy Name Cadets, marching from 1953-1958. He was a soprano soloist with one of his featured performances being in 1957 where he played the solo for “And the Angels Sing” in concert. After aging out of the Cadets, he became the Brass Caption Head and Arranger for the Garfield Cadets from 1959 through 1963 as well as becoming a solo soprano player with the Hawthorne Caballeros from 1959 through 1966. He also taught other horn lines, and wrote some brass arrangements for both the Caballeros and the Casper Troopers.
He was a longtime chief judges administrator for DCI, one of the founders of WGI, who challenged designers to push boundaries while mentoring creative minds in a young WGI.
Don was a true visionary who encouraged wide-ranging creativity, and if you had the opportunity of having him as an instructor, made you play better than your capabilities permitted at the time.
