HIS CADET STORY:

David Welch was a lead mellophone in Garfield Cadets from 1984 through 1987.

In 1989, at Virginia Tech, David established a professional brass quintet, the Quintessential Brass Repertoire. From 1992 to 2001, David worked as a manager for Anderson Consulting/Accenture.  In 2001, David co-founded Rivermine with a few former Cadets, a successful software company with an international client base.

In 2004, at the age of 38, he was diagnosed with a lemon-sized brain tumor.  Rather than retreat from the tremendous challenges related to his diagnosis, David confronted them aggressively, maintaining a widely featured and acclaimed blog (38lemon.com), sharing with the world his struggle to battle the cancer by educating and inspiring countless readers about brain cancer and the medical advancements available for battling this disease.

He was an inspiration to many, but ultimately succumbed to the disease after a four-year battle.
