NELLIE DI DOMENICO (“Aunt Nell”)
Class of 1984
QUARTERMISTRESS / SEAMSTRESS
Cadet Years: Quartermistress/Seamstress (late 1950’s through the mid-1980’s)
HER CADET STORY:
“Aunt Nell” started as a Quartermistress during the late 1950’s. She assisted her sister, Connie Kardash, who was also a Quartermistress while her son Bill Kardash marched in the Corps. Aunt Nell’s talent was that of a seamstress, but her love of the Corps and the love of that famous maroon and gold uniform were a blessing to the organization as Aunt Nell kept the Corps uniforms in impeccable shape. She continued to be the primary Quartermistress for the boys uniforms through the mid-1980’s.
Aunt Nell traveled with the Corps, and even slept on cots in the same gym as the members. And God forbid if a Corps member did anything to dirty the uniform, you had to answer to Aunt Nell . . .
The members even had a song that was sung in her honor on the bus . . . “Wait Til the Sun shines, Nellie”.
