HIS CADET STORY:

Alfred Bartello got involved with the Corps during the late 1940’s when he brought his son Anthony to join the Corps.  Anthony was a member from 1948 through 1957, and our Drum Major for the 1956-1957 seasons.  Alfred’s experience and determination were a key factor in the fundraising success that we had during this era.  As the President of the Cadet Booster Association, it was their responsibility to raise the necessary funds to keep the Corps going.  While half our season was normally financed by our highly successful home shows, called, “The Cadet Invitationals”, the profit from those shows mainly coming from the program book.  Mr. Bartello was the man who helped fill the pages with solicited advertisements.

We will be forever grateful to Mr. Bartello for his help during our pivotal transition year when we went from being The Holy Name Cadets to The Garfield Cadets.  The pressures on the adults who facilitated that transition were tremendous, and in the middle of it all, working feverishly to obtain the funds we needed to keep our ship on course, was Mr. Bartello.
